On March 21, 2013, We at Fashionista Magazine had the pleasure of having a lovely chat with IMVU fashion designer/ creator QBL, otherwise known as Becka. The kind-hearted, very talented and knowledgeable designer has created many signature pieces, from the everyday casual yet glamorous outfit to that  head-turning evening gown or suit for more formal occasions, with accessories and hairstyles to finish off your luxurious look. Here is the link to her catalog for you to browse her amazing designs :)

FM: Now It won’t be an extremely long interview, since I know you are very busy today, most likely creating some more amazing designs Becka. We were very impressed with your catalog. First of all, can you tell us a little about yourself? like where are you from, and what are your favorite things ?

QBL: Well I am 42 from Las Vegas NV. I cant say I really have favorite things I am just happy that I have been given this beautiful life and a wonderful husband to share it with.

FM: that's lovely :) I know one of your interests is creating,..when did you decide to be a fashion designer?

QBL : O well I think I knew right away I wanted to do clothes and my early work shows several...shall we say “less desirable” attempts. so never being satisfied I kept my nose to the grind stone teaching myself more skills I didn’t have.. until finally I looked like I actually had been producing decent products for a bit.

FM: nice, determination is what fuels improvement, and you definitely have that. Do you remember what your first piece was?

QBL: here is the first dress i did... http://www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=5125804

FM: It's pretty , especially for a first try

QBL: Thank you,  I think that dress lit my fire

FM: Could you describe your personal style for us?

QBL: I don’t have one personal style. Personally at home I run around in sweats and T''s [laughs]. On IMVU I wear all the new things I make and what I market is to a mass IMVU market; my target audience is not just to one specific viewer. I market to the Fashionistas as well as the Roleplayers,

FM: Role players, hmm...Do you do custom designs? If someone came to you wanting a specific kind of outfit to portrait a particular era, say...someone wanted to look like a King or Queen,  could you do that?

QBL: Indeed I could. If it wasn’t for those Role play custom orders I have had in the past, I probably wouldn’t have been able to keep financially funding my creating, therefore wouldn’t be siting here right now.

FM: Could you describe your designing process, from conception to the finished design?

QBL: Well I am a tad odd when it comes to this and I will not even sugar coat it with a step by step answer.[laughs] I wake up every morning and the first thing I do is run to the Lappy.. Then I start thumbing through meshers that I know and love to see if anything strikes my fancy or gives me a vision. I have a list of about 25 meshers that I thumb through every morning. I pick what I want and some days it could be easy as a simple color change but most days it turns out to be hours drawing over maps to get the exact look that I like . What I think I am trying to say is the Mesh tells me where I am going more than my vision for it. I have sat down many days with a set thought process and 9 out of 10 times after I get into Photoshop, what I envisioned at the beginning doesn’t happen . But to me whats most important is the end result. I am definitely not your average Creator [laughs]

FM: nice :) that's definitely a different kind of approach, But it works for you, which is the best part, sounds like the musings of a perfectionist ;) It explains the great detail and quality of your work.

QBL: Nothing in my eyes is ever perfected.. I don’t think there is one piece of work that I can say I am 100% satisfied with.

FM: Do you have any favorite seasons in particular? Winter, Spring, Fall, Summer?

QBL: Oh hands down would be winter.. I think around the holidays the meshers pull out all the stops to bring us grand clothing meshes . I submerge myself in front of my fireplace and just go to town picking and choosing what looks compatible together. Sometimes I am up for days working around this time of year,  its so hard to get them all in before spring comes knocking”

FM: The colors of the Spring dresses I've seen so far are gorgeous

QBL: Thank you,  I wanted to do a lot of Pastels mixed with some neon this spring

FM: Do you have any particular colors that you enjoy working with, and could you please share with us the reason for choosing them?

QBL: I am such a sucker for pinks and white.. I have to remind myself to tone it down ... I think the Pastel is iconic to spring. It makes you feel like summer is on its way and the soft colors bring out the “fabulousness” in every lady. They are definitely feel good colors, not to mention look just yummy [laughs]

FM: as you can see I am absolutely loving this design, “Elegant Summer Dress”, i know it's not summer but I don’t think i ever want to take it off, It has a very Marilyn Monroe look and feel to it and I feel rather glamorous.

QBL: its one of my favs I love white I think most ladies do,  white symbolizes so many things

FM: I like the fact that you put so much thought into your creations.

QBL: I think why is because my customers always come first.. I want my customers to have the best,, Demand the best and you get the best..

FM: I would like to know how you got started as a developer, and is it an encouraging environment for persons now starting out?

QBL: Well I started in 08 I was very sick and I found developing. I was using it as a tool to keep my mind occupied and alive from all the medications. I never expected in 2013 it would generate me a income .. but here we are and yes it has, so I discipline myself to 8 to 10 a day [work days] if not more. I think creating can be a healthy environment if you make it healthy don't worry about what others are doing, only yourself, as the more attention you divert to others ,the less time you are devoting to your own products. Indeed my goal is to market to every single account holder, Guest accounts and seasoned veterans. My goal is that 90% of IMVU account holders hear about me at some point during their time here and want to check out what I have to offer. I believe and hope my quality will hook them into coming back ...

FM: On behalf of all of us at Fashionista Magazine, we would like to thank you so much for your time :)

QBL: You're very welcome,  it was a honor to just be here .. I was very excited that I was asked  :)

Besides being a creator/developer, Becka has her very own love story. She met her husband on IMVU,  got married there in 2009 and in the summer of 2010 she relocated to Las Vegas to be with him in real life. They are happily together, proving that wonderful relationships can start and develop online. She says “ He is my business partner, my mate and my bestie.. all rolled up into one”. We are very happy for Becka :).
